Sunday 22nd 2020

Sunday 22nd

First off, I would like to say, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all our wonderful KG1 B mothers.
I am honored to be teaching your children and they are lucky to have such amazing mothers.
Thank you for your continues support. It is much appreciated.

Activity 1
Literacy (20 minutes)

Journal- My school family

Materials needed: writing and coloring materials and print out of journal paper template

Beginning:
In school, we start every week by drawing out what we did over the weekend.
This week, we will draw something different.
We will think and draw of ‘My school family’ and what I like to do with them.

Middle:
Make a copy of the paper attached below.  Provide writing and coloring materials.

You may say:
·      I wonder what your school looks like.  Draw me a map
·      I wonder what you like doing at outdoor time
·      I wonder who you work with at ‘work time’  Draw a picture of your class
·      Acknowledge their drawings.  Ask them questions about it.
·      Encourage them to label some parts of the drawings themselves.
At this stage, even if they write the beginning letter of the word, that is sufficient
e.g. ‘F’ for football.
·      Ask them to sound out a few words based on their drawings.
Ask them to write them out on the lines below their drawings.
·      Ask them to detail their drawings by using coloring materials.

End:
Let the children know they have 5 minutes to complete their work.
Find a place in the house where they can hang the picture.
Ask them if they would like to send it to the teacher so she can put it up on the blog!

Activity 2
Math (5 minutes)

Take a paper and pencil.
-Ask a family member to guess a number between 1-10.
Ask them to tell you, while you note the number down using tally marks.
Remember- “1,2,3,4, close the door!”
-Note down how many steps it takes to walk from your bed to your bedroom door.
Use tally marks to record. Remember- “1,2,3,4, close the door!”

Activity 3
Fine motor Skills (10 minutes)

Hedgehog monster
Materials needed:  Playdoh, googly eyes, pasta, scissors and straws

Beginning:
We will be making a hedgehog today!
You will be working your hand muscles and making them stronger.

Middle:
·      Roll the playdoh and form a ball.
·      Tap the playdoh to form the base of the hedgehog
·      Use scissors to cut the straws
·      Place the pasta, straws and googly eyes and create hedgehog monsters!
·      Make as many you want!  What can you call them?

End:  Give your child five minutes warning and allow them to help in cleaning.
