Exploring Fossils

animals lived in the past.

Middle: Hunt for plastic animals in the house. Take the playdoh you made on Sunday.
Divide the playdough into small balls, rolling them out flat. Imprint the animals into your playdoh.

- Ask- “I wonder what you see when you press the animals onto the playdoh.”
- Ask your child to predict what would happen when the playdoh dries.
- Do the marks vanish or remain on the playdoh?
- Acknowledge your child’s work by stating what they are doing
- Discuss how volcanoes work (we did an experiment in class, ask your child to recall it)
- Relate to any fossils they may have seen on their trip to a museum
End: Give your child a 5 minutes warning to end the activity. Ask them to keep the fossils in the sun and
return to them the next day to observe if their prediction was correct.
